Progress tracking...

I absolutely love the intuitive nature of the product and its core idea. In case you are hiding it in the sales material... I don't see anything about progress tracking or prompting. The final critical step for this product would be to produce for me a daily list of things that need to be done that day to meet the goals in the graphic. That is what is going to keep me honest about achieving those goals. As near as I can tell your idea of progress tracking is manually telling the goals that you are achieving them. That seems prone to neglect. I need a prompt to tell me the list of shit I have to get done, then as I finish them off... the progress is automatically tracked in the graphic.

That is what it feels this product is missing to be a DAILY action tool. Otherwise it feels like something you're going to use to create a graphic with nothing to keep you coming back to it for follow through.

If I'm missing something please point it out because with the exception of the serious short coming... This is an outstandingly intuitive product. The inclusion of the Daily/weekly/monthly list of tasks would make this a perfect app for making a disorganized person like myself enamored with what you're doing.

Thanks,
Jeff

    Hello Jeff

Thanks for your inquiry – and for the great feedback.

Goalscape is really visual goal management software, rather than a simple task management or daily action tool. Nevertheless it does provide some TM functionality.

You can mark Start and End dates on any goal, then use the Highlight sidebar to select goals by date – and/or Responsibility and/or Tag (many people use the Tags 'Next' and 'Now' to implement a GTD-type process) – and you can choose whether to show or hide completed goals. You can generate a Goal List according to those selections: this is in the form of a hierarchical list of goals and daily tasks, which you can export via the clipboard.

There is a video explaining the Highlight sidebar here – we are currently updating this video to include the Goal List feature.

We are considering ways to implement 'live' alarms and reminders, probably by integration with third party TM and calendar tools. Right now there is an alarm function that displays an alarm clock icon on goal slices in the goal map for goals that are not Complete (100% Progress) when the specified End Date arrives.

You need to mark progress in any bottom-level (outermost) goal, according to your own predefined metrics and milestones. Progress aggregates upwards into the parent and higher-level ancestors according to the subgoal's importance and is represented by shading on the goal map.

Recording and tracking progress cannot really be automated as such (since it requires something to be done or a target to be achieved, rather than just measuring time elapsing). There are however some shortcuts: you can simply check a bottom-level goal as completed (100% progress); and you can use the Goal Edit or right-click context menu options on any goal (not just the bottom-level ones) and select 'Complete Progress (incl Subgoals)'.

If there is anything else you need to know please post again.

    Enjoy the journey!

    Richard

    Hi Jeff,

on top of what Richard explained, we have a feature in the pipeline that targets what you are after I believe. If you like, I could show it to you in return for some feedback. Let me know if you are interested.

    Al the best, Marcus

Thanks for the detail Richard. I looked at the product enough to get a decent understanding of what it functionality is. When I was advocating task progress be auto updated as I complete tasks... I was meaning this in the context of having something like the Reminder window from Outlook (but hopefully more robust) that let's me know the things I need to get done today to acheive my goals. So, the tasks in the daily list/reminder would then update the main application goals with the progress.

Marcus, I would love to take a look at what you are working on!
