Resetting Registry and Preferences

Where there is an old version of Goalscape Desktop installed it will have its own Registry and Preferences information on the hard drive. This may affect installation or activation of the latest version. The fix is to uninstall Goalscape Desktop and Adobe AIR, clear the Registry and (sometimes) Preferences, then reinstall Adobe AIR and Goalscape Desktop.

Please note that changing the Registry requires Admin access to your computer's Operating System. The relevant folders may also be Hidden (even if you have Admin access). To access the relevant folders:

  • Windows

    To View the AppData folder (Windows 7+) or Application Data folder (Windows XP) in your account: right-click on your user_ID folder, select Folder Details, click the View tab and set the checkmark to "Show hidden files and folders".

  • macOS

    To Unhide your Library:

    1 Click the Spotlight icon (magnifying glass top right of your screen)

    2 Enter 'terminal' and click the 'Terminal' option when offered

    3 In Terminal, enter the following text:

    chflags nohidden ~/Library

    Then press Enter.

    The next time you go into Finder, your Library folder and its subfolders will be visible and available.

Once you have access to the relevant area(s), the steps to clear your Registry are:

  1. Uninstall Goalscape Desktop

  2. Uninstall Adobe AIR (on a Mac, rather than simply dragging its icon to Trash, run the special 'Adobe AIR Uninstaller' application – this is usually in Applications > Utilities)

  3. Clear the Registry: delete all files and folders that have the form com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.guid (where 'guid' is a long character string)

    1. For existing installations of the latest versions of Goalscape Desktop (2.8+):

      1. In Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10 delete the com.goalscape.app... folder(s) here:

        C:/Users/[user_ID]/AppData/Roaming/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

        In Windows XP: delete the com.goalscape.app... folder here:

        C:/Documents and Settings/Users/[user__ID]/Application Data/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

        or

        C:/Documents and Settings/Users/[user_ID]/Application Data/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

      2. In macOS (any version) delete the com.goalscape.app... folder here:

        [user_home]/Library/Application Support/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

    2. For existing installations of earlier versions of Goalscape Desktop (2.7 and earlier)

      1. Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10 delete the com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid] folder here:

        C:/Users/[user_ID]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

        Windows XP: delete the com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid] folder here:

        C:/Documents and Settings/Users/[user_ID]/Application Data/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

        or

        C:/Documents and Settings/Users/[user_ID]/Application Data/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

      2. macOS (any version) delete the com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid] folder here:

        [user_home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]/ELS

  4. Clear the Preferences (this will remove the last-open goalscapes from the workspace, clear the Recent goalscapes list and reset any Settings to default values).

    1. For existing installations of the latest versions of Goalscape Desktop (2.8+):

      1. Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10 delete the #SharedObjects folder here:

        C:/Users/[user_ID]/AppData/Roaming/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]/Local Store/#SharedObjects

        Windows XP delete the #SharedObjects folder here:

        C:/Documents and Settings/[user_ID]/Application Data/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]/Local Store/#SharedObjects

      2. macOS (any version) delete the #SharedObjects folder here:

        [user_home]/Library/Application Support/Preferences/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]/Local Store/#SharedObjects

    2. For existing installations of earlier versions of Goalscape Desktop (2.7 and earlier)

      1. Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10 delete the com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid] folder here:

        C:/Users/[user_ID]/AppData/Goalscape/Local Store/#SharedObjects/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]

        Windows XP: delete the com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid] folder here:

        C:/Documents and Settings/Users/[user_ID]/Application Data/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]/Local Store/#SharedObjects

      2. macOS (any version) delete the #SharedObjects folder here:

        user_home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.goalscape.app.GoalscapeDesktop.[guid]/Local Store/#SharedObjects/

  5. Download and install the latest Adobe AIR from here: http://get.adobe.com/air/

  6. Download and install the latest Goalscape Desktop from here: https://www.goalscape.com/desktop-install/

  7. Accept the EULA and activate the installation by entering your credentials at the Welcome screen.
