Feedback on the Goalscape website/software
First of all, I love the interface concept of GoalScape. For some reason it just resonates with me. For tracking goals I keep coming back to GoalScape.
But I’m also looking for something that I find difficult to do in GoalScape which makes me move to other tools. So I find myself trying to use GoalScape, then moving away from it, then going back to it… etc. It would really be nice if somehow these things could be incorporated into GoalScape.
1. Project tasks and tracking todo. I find that sometimes I just need a daily task list and I prefer seeing those as a list that I can go through and check off. I can’t figure out a way in GoalScape to easily view my tasks in a list. I know that I can do “tags”, but what I really want is automated view that will show me tasks that are past due, today, this week, next week, and this month. I would like to have the % complete right there on the list and to be able to update it right there. I also want the ability to make tasks “focus” tasks. That way although I might view todays tasks (say there are 15 of them), I can select a few (say 3) that are actually my focus tasks that I have to work on before anything else is done. I also need the way to add in unconnected tasks. These are urgent tasks that come up in everyone’s life that aren’t really part of a goal, but they have to be done anyway.
2. Time tracking and reporting for billing purposes. When I start work on a task many of them are for billable work to clients. Right now I have to use other programs to track the tasks… So I enter them in GoalScape and then have to duplicate the task in a time tracker in order to get billing reports. I would like to be able to use GoalScape to start a timer when I start work on a task. The task needs to be assignable to a client + a client project. Then I need to be able to report by month the clients + projects, the comments for work done, and the billable hours.
3. I would like to have an addition to the pricing model. I purchase a full copy of GoalScape desktop lifetime some time ago. The monthly subscription includes a copy of GoalDesktop. But for those of us who purchased the Desktop we don’t get any access to the online version for sharing. It would be nice to have access to the web version as a purchaser of the desktop version.
Thanks,
Norm Sash

Hi Norm
Thanks for taking the time to give us this feedback.
Interestingly this message (though none of your others) ended up in our spam filter – even though you did not send it by email! To avoid this happening again in future you can create a Profile on this forum by clicking the link at the top of every page.
Goalscape is really visual goal management software rather than a task management tool – and it is still the best way to define goals, set priorities and track progress visually. For task management functions you can use Start and Due dates and Tags like !Now and !Next (and !Focus), then use the Highlight Sidebar to display the goals that match your selections. (There is some more detail about this aspect in this Public discussion.)
You can also generate a goal list according to your selections in the Highlight sidebar – and export the list via the clipboard to a spreadsheet or task management tool such as Evernote. And you can check off a task as Complete in the goal list itself: the progress will automatically be updated in the project (and will be carried up into the parent goal).
We have updated the Highlight sidebar video to cover this aspect – you can watch it here.
Goalscape Unlimited users can also access their projects to see and update their online projects, goals and tasks in the Goalscape Mobile app (available for iOS or Android).
Goalscape is not a time-tracking tool. The Importance does not necessarily relate directly to the time to be spent on that goal; and the Progress should reflect how far along the path to completing the goal you are (according to defined metrics and milestones), not the time spent working on a task.
For recording billable hours you can use a third party Calendar. If you use an online tool like Google Calendar you can insert hyperlinks in your goals in Goalscape to link to specific events in your calendar – and link from those events back into Goalscape using the URL for the relevant goal.
Your existing Goalscape Desktop perpetual single-user license (purchased in May 2014) is still valid and you will continue to receive full support and free upgrades for life.
When you purchased your license you also received a free 'Web Bonus' 6-month subscription to the separate web application (then called Goalscape Connect) – that expired in November 2014.
Your expired Goalscape Connect account has been converted to the new Goalscape Free account. This means that you can now create (or upload) a project (30 goals maximum) and share it online with as many people as you like (including other Free users). All your existing online projects are still View only (exactly as they have been since your free 6-month subscription expired in November 2014).
The new $6 monthly Goalscape Unlimited subscription does not include a Goalscape Desktop license: it provides Unlimited use of the web application Goalscape Online.
The new $60 Goalscape Desktop license does allows use of the Desktop software for ever (and transfers to new machines); upgrades are however provided only while the customer has a valid Unlimited subscription. The license also still includes a 6-month Unlimited subscription for the online application.
So your use of the Goalscape Desktop application is unaffected by the recent changes and your use of the Online application has actually been enhanced (you can now create, update and share 1 online project, completely free). To use the full functionality of the Online application (unlimited online projects of unlimited size), you can upgrade from Free to Unlimited for just $6 per month (recurring).
The position with respect to the Goalscape Mobile app is unchanged: previously it could only be used by those with a valid Goalscape Connect subscription; now it can only be used by those with a valid Goalscape Unlimited subscription. We are however intending to open up access to Goalscape Mobile for Free users too – watch out for announcements!
Norm, I trust that this additional background has put you at ease about our pricing policy and the product details.
There is another product we are considering: a 12-month Unlimited subscription (with no Goalscape Desktop license). This is currently available for corporate multiple purchases (4 or more) and we may add it as a payment option for Unlimited.
Keep achieving great goals!
Richard
