[TheBrain Support] Re: Error when trying to import mmap xml file
Hi Richard (GoalScape)
I'm trying to "integrate" two programs using the .mmap file format. The two programs are:
Source: GoalScape
Destination: TheBrain (mindmapping software)
I'm exporting from GoalScape into TheBrain via common support of the .mmap file format. The problem is that when TheBrain tries to import a .mmap export file from GoalScape it terminates with an unrecoverable error. I have worked with TheBrain support and they can't figure out why the error is occurring. They can take the same GoalScape .mmap export, read it into MindManager, export it from MindManager, and then import into TheBrain. That works. But going directly from a GoalScape export to a TheBrain import fails.
Patrick from TheBrain made a comment that maybe the export file format isn't the current version of MindManager format and that is why it might be failing (although I think they were guessing at this.) At this point they don't know what to do. You can see the issue thread below.
I’ve put both TheBrain and GoalScape support on this thread in the hopes that you can work together to figure out what is wrong as it’s out of my league.

Quick follow-up: does the Import mechanism in Goalscape Desktop (Upload in Goalscape Online) work when you take an exported MMAP from The Brain?

Hi Richard... I checked with The Brain and they do not have an export to .mmap capability; they only have an import from .mmap capability.
I did work with them by trying to export several different .mmap files from Goalscape and also sent those exports to them. They could not figure out why it was failing on import; they could only confirm that taking other .mmap files and importing worked.
Any chance that you could contact them to try and figure out where the conflict is?

The Export to MMAP should generate a file that opens in Mindjet MindManager – we are checking that the export matches the latest MindManager format and will post here with any news.

The Brain support people should be able to examine the MMAP file you exported from Goalscape and determine any key differences from the 'compatible' MMAP files that their import mechanism can accept.

I can confirm that the MMAP file exported from Goalscape opens fine in the latest version of Mindjet MindManager. So any problems importing it into The Brain must be due to an issue with the import mechanism in The Brain.
