Hello,

I'm having issues regarding having my Goalscape Desktop to permantely accecpt my licens on my PC's/Laptop. Everytime I start Goalscape Desktop up on another of my PC's I'm asked to activate my GS license. When activated It works fine, by when I "switch Back" to another of my PC's with GS installed and previously entered license I'm asked again to activate my license. This keeps happening when ever I switch PC/laptop. If I do not switch device, everything works fine.

I've read a previous disuccion thread where it is confirmed that the GS Desktop license are user based and can be used on all devices by the user. What do I need to do to get rid of this ongoing license activation "exercise" ?

Regards,
Karsten

    Hello Karsten

Welcome aboard – thanks for your inquiry.

Yes: that is correct behavior. Your Goalscape Desktop lifetime license allows you to Activate an installation of the software on one machine at a time for ever (see paragraph 1.1 of the EULA that you accepted on each installation).

To enable you to transfer your licence to a new computer when you upgrade your equipment, you can simply download the software from our website to the new machine and Activate it: when you do so that will automatically deactivate the previous installation.

So you can use Goalscape Desktop on multiple machines under a single license as you describe; as you have found though, you will need to reactivate the software every time you switch machines – and of course you also need to transfer your Desktop projects (.gsp files) each time, and do your own version control.

Any references to multiple activations you may have seen here or elsewhere must be about our old Desktop licenses, which cost 89 euros and covered activation on two machines at a time. In 2015, with the upgrade to version 2.8, we reduced the price to 60 US dollars for a single activation.

Note though that your Goalscape Desktop license also includes a free 6-month Unlimited subscription to the separate yet compatible web application Goalscape Online. This means that you can create an unlimited number of Online projects of unlimited size – or upload all your existing Desktop projects. Then you will be able to access all your Online projects using any desktop or laptop computer anywhere in the world. You can also share Online projects with others – and even give Free users Edit access to your shared projects (1 per Free user).

    Enjoy the journey!

    Richard

    Hello Richard,

Thank you for quick feed-back. Since the ongoing reactivation when switching device are "by design" (and missed that when I read the EULA) I will have to live with the extra work using GS Desktop version back-and-forth between my devices. Though a bit cumbersome "user" license model IMHO :-/

    Regards,
    Karsten

    Hello Karsten

    Thanks for the follow-up.

You will appreciate that we cannot offer unlimited activations under a single user license. Most desktop software applications permit only one installation ever (using a 'License Key' or similar). By registering activations against your user account, our user model enables you easily to transfer your Desktop license to a new computer when you upgrade your equipment, thus providing you with lifetime use in return for a single payment.

If you wish to access your projects on multiple computers, the ideal solution is to use the web application Goalscape Online. In Online, whatever computer you use, you will always see your latest updates on all your projects: there is no need to transfer project files between machines, and no need for any version control.

The Online application is also more secure and does not require any 'backup': if your laptop is lost or stolen, or if you suffer a crash, you will not lose any data stored as Goalscape projects (or attachments thereto).

Your Desktop license includes a free 6-month Online Unlimited subscription, so you can try it out for yourself. If you want to upload any of your existing Desktop projects just click the 'up into the cloud' button at the top of the Online screen, then select the .gsp file from its location in your hard drive.

    May you achieve great goals!

    Richard
