Attaching mac pages file.

Hi
I'm running Goalscape on my mac and I use the mac operating system not windows. My goalscape won't let me attach Pages files. I can export it to a windows word file and it will let me attach that, but that's of no use to me as I can't then open it.

Would you be able to make an adjustment in the next update to allow me to attach pages files?

Many Thanks

Doug Horner

    Hi Doug

    Thanks for your post.

I have tried to replicate it on my Mac and I cannot replicate the problem - I can attach Pages files in the usual way and and open them by double-clickiing the filename. Please could you describe the steps which led to the failed attachment, with any messages you saw (or screenshots).

Furthermore I cannot replicate your problem opening Word files in Pages: .doc, .docx and .rtf files all open from within Pages using File > Open, or by dragging and dropping the Word file onto the Pages application icon in your dock. You should also be able to open Word files by right-clicking: select Open With, then select Pages.app from the list. Please let me know if these methods do not work on your machine.

    Hi Richard

When I click attach file, all my pages files are faded out, it won't let me select any of them. Any mp4 video files are fine and any pdf files are fine.
When I export it to word file, it will let me attach and I can eventually open it in pages but there seems to be a different process happening though. With a pdf or vid file, when I double click to open it, it opens straight from goalscape. With the word file, it won't let me right click from goalscape (right clicking it, absolutely nothing happens). I have to double click, it then opens up 2 seperate screens. A blank Safari screen and the Finder screen where the word file is located and from there I can right click it to select 'open with'.

    Hi Doug

Thanks for the additional information - it definitely appears that there is something wrong, which I cannot replicate here. I have escalated this issue and we will come back to you - maybe we can do a screenshare so you can demonstrate exactly what is happening.

As far as opening attached Word (or other) files is concerned, Goalscape currently opens all attachments through the browser - in your case Safari. We are working on a way to make this more elegant. (You are right as well, right-clicking attached files is not supported in Goalscape - I mentioned the other methods of opening Word files because I had the impression that you were having trouble generally when trying to open them in Pages).

Once again, apologies for any inconvenience.

    Hello again Doug

I have reported the problem you have with files being unavailable for selection as attachments (grayed out in the folder list). Unfortunately nobody has been able to replicate it so we are rather stymied right now. It is possible that something has happened with your specific installation, in which case you may be able to resolve it by uninstalling, then reinstalling from here.

Improving file attachment has been one of our development goals for some time. Attachments are currently implemented as links to a location on your hard drive: we are aiming to replace this with 'email attachment' type functionality, which may take a few weeks.

Opening files directly (rather than through the browser) will not be available in Goalscape until Adobe AIR v2.0 is delivered (currently in beta test). Until then, attached files have to open via the browser. Since you have no trouble opening mp4s and pdfs their default applications may already be set, you may be able to change the 'open with' settings in your OS to 'always open' Word files with Pages (say).

I am leaving this thread open.

    Hi Doug

You will be pleased to know that one of our conscientious young developers spotted this thread and managed to reproduce the error: that will definitely help us to trace the problem and work on a fix.

Thanks again for notifying us - I will let you know how we progress.

    Hi Doug,

attachments will be opened with native applications once you install AIR 2.0. This version of AIR is currently available as a beta version, but its public release is due in just a few weeks. So its quite safe to install it. But do so at your own risk, or wait until AIR updates automatically. You can find AIR 2.0 beta here:

    Kind regards, Marcus
