Attach a folder option

Hello again Richard,

I was trying the GoalScape beta when identified an intersting feature to be implemented . The "attachment" option could offer the possibility of attaching folders too. And the notes tab could have a tab that indexes all the notes into (like a sumary of notes where you could access all the notes form there).

It's just a sugestion that may simplify the use and the visualization when you have a large amount od information inside a goal/subgoal.

Best Regards,
Hugo

    Hello Hugo

    Thanks for your interesting suggestions.

    • Attach folders

The main reason we chose to attach files rather than folders (apart from simplicity and ease of access) is that Goalscape's embedded hierarchy is already quite similar to a folder/subfolder structure. So rather than attaching a folder (full of files) to a goal, we prefer to assign the individual files within that folder to the relevant subgoal. If a further level is required, the user can build an extra level of subgoals. This preserves the completeness and accuracy of the goalscape's visual structure as a representation of the logical model (rather than hiding complexity in "invisible" file/folder structures within the goal map).

    • Notes "summary"

As far as the Notes field containing a 'Contents/Summary' to index all the Notes (presumably you mean the Notes of its subgoals): a similar explanation applies, ie that Goalscape's hierarchical structure is already like a visual representation of the 'text hierarchy' contained in (say) a Contents listing.

To find a specific specific goal or Notes (and, in Goalscape Desktop, even attachments by filename), it is probably easiest to use the smart Search function. That has the virtue of finding all goals that contain a particular text string (as part of a name or in the notes). Search will even find those not in the current focus – or in completely different goalscapes (as long as they are open).

In Goalscape Connect, if you just want a quick way of jumping to different subgoals (especially ones you cannot see, eg if you are in Focus view) you can always put hyperlinks to those other subgoals in the Notes field. You could use this facility to build up a network of connections between subgoals that is independent of the goalscape structure itself – and later we will introduce context-based 'tagging' to do just that.

    • New views

Since we recognize that many people like to use different views for different purposes, we are already working on a 'list view' (text hierarchy) and a 'timeline view' (similar to a Gantt chart). Note that users of Goalscape Desktop can already generate a text hierarchy: it is the Contents listing in the exported HTML document.

If I have not adequately covered the points you raised please feel free to post again.

    May you achieve great goals!

    Richard
