Autosave
I have found that if I add, delete or move a goal the project will autosave. However, I will often set up a goal for weekly and quarterly tracking and then copy and past that goal to other goals that I also want to track weekly & quarterly. After pasting the goals the project auto saves but when I modify the text the goal doesn't auto save. After building out the whole project I logged out, and, after logging back in I noticed I had several projects all with the same name. Is this a bug? How do I manually save text?

Linking projects:
I've seen another thread that is asking a similar question. I will state it differently. I have completed 2016 overall goals for business, health, relationships and education. I have divided those into quarterly progress / milestone projects so I can see the text in the deeper sub-goals and to plan shorter term celebration points. So what i have is 5 projects: 2016 overall goals, Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4. What I would like to see is when I update Q1 results the 2016 Annual goal overview is automatically updated.

Desktop Software Sync with Connect:
It looks like I need to manually upload a desktop project from the desktop software to the online connect projects for them to sync. If this is the case, that process risks overwriting changes that another user may have made (my wife and I are tracking family goals under the same project). are there plans or are you willing to consider live syncing similar to that used by Evernote?

    Hello Joe

    Thanks for your post.

    • Autosave

Autosave is a function in Goalscape Desktop, which periodically saves your work to the existing filename (so if you have a crash you will not lose too much work). You can adjust the autosave interval or disable it completely using the options in the Customize Goalscape screen (click the 'wrench' button at top right to open this screen).

If you are talking about the web application Goalscape Online, all confirmed updates are communicated to our server immediately. So if you are making changes that are not preserved, please provide more details:

    • Where did you make the text changes (goal name, Notes text or in a Goal Comment)?

    • What did you do immediately after making those changes (select a different field, goal or View)?

If the issue is with goal name text, you may find that simply pressing Enter after making the change will 'cement' it.

You can check whether your changes in the client have been saved to the server by refreshing the browser page.

    • Linking projects

It sounds as if you are making it very complicated! You can run parallel projects, or a 'master' project and several 'sub-projects'. If you do so you can either link them (using hyperlinks in the Notes fields) or use sub-projects for day-to-day work, then C&P them back into the 'master' as subgoals of the main goal (note though that you will then need to delete the original version of that subgoal in the master!).

Most people though use a single large project to cover their entire life. If you and your wife want to share this project you should use separate Goalscape accounts and sign in with your own usernames (then you can use the collaboration features properly).

Note that if you use a single large (master) project, as an Unlimited user you can share that project with your wife (or anyone else) at no extra cost: Free users can access and update a large project if invited by an Unlimited user.

If you are only running 'parallel projects' so that you can see the names of the lower-level goals when you look at the entire project, you can easily reproduce this view in a large project by using Focus View (double-click a goal to focus on it - or use the Goal Edit or right-click options). There is an Infopoint video about changing view: click the 'i' button at top right of the Goalscape to see where all the Infopoints are, then click the one by the Anchor Bar at 12 o'clock.

If I have misunderstood what you are asking here, please post again to clarify – screenshots would be very useful.

    • Desktop Software Sync with Connect

You are correct: there is no automatic sync between Goalscape Desktop and Goalscape Online. We are working on this!

There are fewer and fewer places with no Internet connection, so most people only use the Download .gsp facility as a backup. If you make changes to a project in Goalscape Desktop and re-upload it, it will create a new instance of the project. The best way to cope with versioning issues is to C&P only the updated goals back into the original master version, then Close the newly-uploaded version. You can datestamp the main goal name and the downloaded .gsp filename) to identify your different versions.

If you are only using Goalscape Desktop to allow your wife to update the project separately from your Goalscape Online project, you should both use Goalscape Online as described above. Then you both always see the same project (which is always the latest version) and you will see each other's updates immediately.

    All the best

    Richard
