Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between the desktop version which is offline (paying a fixed fee) and the online version (paying monthly)? What exactly does it mean by offline and online?

    Hello Ruth

Thanks for your inquiry – sorry the distinction is not clear on our website.

Goalscape Desktop and Goalscape Online are separate products:

    • Desktop is standalone desktop software: all the software and data are on the local machine.

For a one-time payment of $60, the Desktop lifetime license allows you to Activate the software in one machine at a time for ever. It also includes our Web Bonus: a free 6-month Online Unlimited subscription for Online.

    • Online is a web application: all the software and data are on our secure servers.

If you want to access all your projects on any computer anywhere in the world, you need to use Online. The major functionality is the same and it has additional project sharing facilities like presence and update indicators, per-project collaborator access settings and Goal Comment (per-goal IM with email notification options). There are more details in the attached pdf.

You can also access and update your Online projects using the free Goalscape Mobile companion app (search for 'Goalscape' on the App Store or Google Play). Mobile syncs with Online to display daily goals and tasks on your mobile phone or tablet, using an indented text hierarchy (like the Goal List > Tree View in the main Online application).

As a Free user you can create 1 project (30 goals maximum) and share it with anyone you like. This is not a trial, it provides free use of Goalscape Online for ever.

The Online Unlimited subscription ($6 per month or $66 per year) allows you to create an unlimited number of projects of unlimited size. You can share them with others – and you can even give new Free users Edit access to large projects (1 per Free user) at no additional cost.

The two products are compatible: in Online you can upload and download Desktop projects (.gsp files). There is though no automatic 'sync' between the two, so if you want to run the same project(s) in Online and Desktop you will need to do your own version control (NB we do not recommend doing this for shared projects).

If there is anything else you need to know please post again.

    Enjoy the journey!

    Richard
