Affiliate Program
When I invite someone to a shared template file, would they be tracked for an affiliate purchase later?

Hi Bill
Welcome aboard! Thanks for your inquiry.
When you register as an affiliate in the Goalscape Affiliate Program you will receive your own Referral Code – a personalised link to our site in the format 'https://goalscape.refersion.com/[unique_ID]' that you can send to your contacts or post on your website and social media pages (tip: insert your Affiliate URL under a screenshot of an example project).
When someone clicks your Affiliate Link and subsequently purchases Goalscape, you will receive a 25% commission (affiliate fees are aggregated and paid monthly in arrears).
Because of the strict format required for the Affiliate Link, it is not possible to insert your Referral Code into the URL in the Invitation email that is sent when you Share a project with someone. Instead you can include your Affiliate Link under some text (eg 'Learn more about Goalscape') in the Notes for the main goal of your shared project; and you can include it in any follow-up emails you send (or even a Goal Comment in the shared project, with email notifications set).
May you achieve great goals in 2020!
Richard

Thanks Richard.
It appears that the invitation to a template sets the invitee up with a new free goalscape account where they can upgrade like any user. The fact that I invited them does not get tracked for the affiliate program? If the user likes goalscape and upgrades with that would not register as an affiliate sale?
I'm new and just exploring, but I like what I see so far. I think inviting clients into a working template would lead to sales, but once they are in and using I believe they would naturally just hit the upgrade button if they wanted more. Is there a way to have an unbranded template where the upgrade option uses my affiliate link?

Hello Bill
Thanks for the suggestion – we recognise that it would be a very useful way to register your contacts under the Affiliate Program. Unfortunately though it is not possible to implement custom 'Upgrade' links, since the format of the Referral Code link is quite strict. We may find a way to embed the Referral Code in other links in the future.
In the meantime, as a marketing device you could send an advance email to your contacts that includes your Referral Code link under a screenshot of an example project with a message like 'click here to learn more about Goalscape then hit Reply to request your own project'. Once people have clicked that link, if they subsequently purchase Goalscape via any route (including the 'Upgrade' one in Online itself) they will be tagged as your customers. And if they Reply to that email you can check that they have clicked the link before you Share (their personalised version of) your template with them.
To make the most of the template facility on Goalscape, please also read our Knowledge Base article Creating and Using Templates.
All the best
Richard

Thanks Richard,
So I should send an affiliate join link first and after they sign up I can send the share link from my account? If they open the share link and use my file will the system know they are already set up with their own free account when using my share link?
The way you have implemented the share link is pretty nice. As an advisor to my clients, being able to send them an easy link to a handy tool is going to be very useful.

Hi Bill
Yes: if people use your Affiliate Link just to go to our website (and they have not already used another affiliate's link), they will be tagged as your contact and you will receive your commission when they buy the software. They do not need to do anything else on our site (like register as a Free user) for the affiliate link to work; you may though want to recommend that they watch the Intro video.
If they do register as a Free user they will receive the same 'Goalscape sign-up confirmation' email that you did (with the joining information and links).
When you Share a project with someone, you can tell whether or not they already have a Goalscape account from the message that appears when you enter their email address in the Share screen: 'You can invite new Free user [username] to join this project' (in blue text) or 'You can share this project to known user [username]' (in green text).
If someone already has a Goalscape account (Free user or Unlimited subscriber) when you share a project with them, they will not receive an Invitation email: the shared project will simply appear in their workspace (and if they are using Goalscape at the time they will see an on-screen Alert about it, including your message text, if any).
You can also (if you wish) send such existing users your own email to let them know that you have shared the Goalscape project with them. You can include your Affiliate Link in such an email (although if they have already used it they do not need to do so again in order to be registered as your contact); and you can also include a link to the project (if that is what you meant by your 'share link'), although you do not need to do so as it will appear in their workspace when they sign in to Online.
If I have misunderstood what you are asking here please post again to clarify.
All the best
Richard

Hi Richard,
I'm still exploring how to make the affiliate link work while sending them to a sample worksheet.
In Refersion there seems to be an option to create a custom link to a specific page.

Can I send myself a code to join a shared demo worksheet and use that link to 'create link to specific page' in refersion to that page?
Is my email address buried in that link or does that link simply connect my ID when they set up a goalscape free account.
I really would like to send clients directly to a demo goalscape worksheet I have setup. Thoughts?

Hi Bill
Yes: you can indeed enter a Goalscape Online URL in that 'New Custom Link' screen, to create a Custom Referral Link (with your code embedded) that you can send to your contacts.
So yes: if by 'demo goalscape worksheet' you mean a generic version of your project, you can use a Custom Referral Link to send your contacts to such a project – and if you make it Public they will not even need to have a Goalscape account to View it. To do this:
When someone clicks a link to a Public project in Goalscape Online, they can access the project in View mode to navigate it and read its contents, without signing in to Online (or even needing a Goalscape account). And as long as someone clicks your Custom Referral Link to go to such a project, they will be registered as your contact and you will receive the commission on any subsequent sale (unless they had already clicked another affiliate's Referral link before yours).
Please note that when you create a new Goalscape Free user account for someone by Sharing an Online project with them (when they do not already have an account), the invitation email they receive will always be the original project URL, not any Custom Referral Link that you have created.
So your process should be to ensure that someone has clicked your Referral link (either the default to go to our homepage, or your Custom Link to go to the demo project) before you Share the personalised version of your project with them.
Keep achieving great goals in 2020!
Richard
PS to clarify the Goalscape terminology, we use:
Project to refer to a Goalscape project – ie the hierarchy of goals to be achieved in any undertaking
Goal to refer to the main goal at the center and all its subgoals: Level 1 for the first ring ('top level') of subgoals, Level 2 for the next, all the way to 'bottom level goals' (which some may call 'tasks')
Project tab to refer to the tabs in Online that you click to select projects
Goal Map to refer to the circular display of the goal hierarchy (on the left of the Goalscape screen)
Panel to refer to the 'goal details' area (on the right of the Goalscape screen) that displays the goal attributes (Importance, Progress, Responsibility, Tag and Dates, as well as the Notes, Comments and Attachments fields (and any user-created Custom Notes fields).
Please encourage your contacts to use this terminology as well: that will ensure fast, accurate communication in case they ever need to contact our support function direct.
