This standard template illustrates the first stage in building your own personal (or team) sailing goalscape.

It is in fact a (very basic) subset of the full 'Master the Art of Sailboat Racing' with structure and content by double Olympian and Goalscape co-founder Marcus Baur. We are currently giving away a copy of the full model with every purchase the software.

If you have just bought the software you can request a free copy of the full 'Master the Art of Sailboat Racing' goalscape. Click here to send us an email - please use "Master the Art" in the Subject line. If you are not yet registered on the Support site, don't worry; just confirm your email address in your request (it must be the same one you registered when you purchased Goalscape).

    Hi Pablo

    Welcome aboard!

Here (at last!) is your copy of our 'Master the Art of Sailboat Racing' template, based on Marcus Baur's, Emmett Lazich's and my experiencing coaching and competing in the Olympic 49er class. To download it, right-click it and select 'Save link as...', then save it somewhere on your hard drive.

NB when you Save the file you may need to enforce the '.gsp' suffix – some OS may try to change that suffix to '.txt' or even '.xml'.

Once you have saved it to your hard drive you can login to the web app and Upload it using the 'up into the cloud' (Import goalscape) button in the Home screen.

You may also be interested in Marcus Baur's article Why the Visual Overview is Vital and Emmett Lazich's Gold Medal Goalsetting with Goalscape.

May you achieve great goals in your sailing, at school and in life!

    Dear Richard,
I’m trying to use my subscription with the desktop (offline) app and it isn’t working. How should I proceed?

Also, I’m trying to understand the differences between the two apps (webpage and desktop), could you explain if they sync between them and if I can pass files from one to the other?

    Hi Pablo

    Sorry for the confusion.

    • Goalscape Desktop

Goalscape Desktop is standalone desktop software: Desktop goalscapes are stored (as .gsp files) on the hard drive on which you create them – in this way it's like Word or Excel. There is no facility to share your goalscapes in Desktop, and no sync with any other product.

Desktop was the first version we produced: it is a 'legacy' app and we are not planning any updates for it, although we will continue to support existing users and allow them to download it when they update their equipment.

    • Goalscape web app

The Goalscape web app is the future! Your goalscapes are on our secure server and you access them in your browser. As well as the facility to access your goalscapes from any machine anywhere in the world and share them with others, the web app already does many things that are not possible in Desktop (such as embedding images and videos in teh Notes).

We are adding more new features all the time – including (soon) full functionality on tablets and smaller screens. Furthermore the new codebase offers significant additional benefits like real-time integrations with third party tools.

Your new Yearly subscription does however include the Offline licence, so if you really want to use Desktop you can do so. We have now enabled the necessary permission on your account, so you can Activate one installation at a time with your Goalscape credentials – please note your password for Desktop (and Online) may be different from the one you have set for the web app (they have different user databases), so you need to use the Password-reset process in the app you want to use.

Although there is no sync between Desktop and the web app, if you have been using Desktop under the free trial you can Upload any .gsp files you created to the web app using the 'up into the cloud' (Import goalscape) button in the Home screen (see screenshot 1). And you can now Download your goalscapes from the web app using the option under the ellipsis (3 dots) in the Home screen (see screenshot 2).

Nevertheless, we do not recommend uploading and downloading your goalscapes and using the different products to update them. Due to the disparity in supported features and goal attributes, in any two-way transfer only the common elements will be preserved. And we definitely disrecommend that practice for any shared goalscapes, since every upload creates a new instance of the goalscape – and your collaborators may have updated the original instance while you were offline, which will cause versioning issues.

Medium term we will build a full 'web-enabled' app (with the new UI) that you download and use both online and offline (it will sync with the server when your connection is restored).

If you need to know anything else please post again.

    Enjoy the journey!
